Valbruna Smooth Brown 2 Jellyfish Pipe – Quarter Bent Dublin by Simone Gaudenzi

The Valbruna Smooth Brown 2 Jellyfish pipe represents a refined expression of northern Adriatic craftsmanship. It is handcrafted by Simone Gaudenzi, a pipemaker with long and consolidated experience in the Pesaro district who has brought the Valbruna line to life from his workshop in Gabicce Mare. This specific model stands out for its 2 Jellyfish grading, which identifies pieces of exceptional aesthetic and structural merit within his production.

Design and Geometry: A Free Interpretation of the Dublin

The design of this pipe unfolds as a free and personal interpretation of the classic Dublin shape, leaning into a slightly quarter bent silhouette that improves its overall balance and comfort when held in the mouth.

  • The Contrast of Volumes: The defining element of this design is the intentional, sharp contrast in proportions. The head is generous and imposing, dominating the pipe's profile before tapering down to meet a particularly slender shank. This volumetric transition gives the piece strong visual dynamism and a distinct personality.

  • The Rim and Chamber: The upper rim of the bowl is finished with a bark top (natural plateau), preserving the original rough texture of the briar block and creating a striking material contrast with the smooth surface. The chamber offers a medium capacity, featuring internal drilling with a subtle taper at the bottom.

Briar Finish and Grain

The Smooth Brown finish was chosen to fully highlight the quality of the wood. The warm, deep brown stain penetrates the fibers, accentuating the density and natural flow of the Italian briar's grain.

The Stem and Premium Details

  • Material and Shape: The stem is molded from black ebonite, a material historically favored by smokers for its softness. It features a saddle design, a solution that visually lightens the transition onto the slender shank.

  • The Silver Maker's Mark: Inlaid on the top of the stem is the silver Jellyfish logo, the artisan hallmark certifying the authenticity and membership of this pipe within the premium line signed by Simone Gaudenzi.
