Radice Rind Oil Cured GG Pipe: The Cucciago Interpretation of Shape 55
Handcrafted entirely by brothers Marzio and Gianluca Radice, this artisanal pipe represents a successful "Cucciago" interpretation of the famous Shape 55. Within the Radice workshop, this specific silhouette is affectionately nicknamed "Totò": its generous lines and the prominent chin-like bulge at the base of the bowl serve as a fond, geometric reminder of the famous chin of the great Italian actor and comedian, an icon of the 1950s.
This is a chubby pipe of substantial proportions, characterized by decidedly robust and thick walls, engineered to ensure optimal heat retention and excellent stability when held in the hand.
Aesthetics and Craftsmanship Details
The design of the pipe unfolds across a well-balanced half-bent silhouette. The body of the pipe is finished with a deep rustication, a highly textured treatment that adds strong personality to the piece while providing a secure grip.
The shank, short and robust in full chubby style, connects to a black acrylic saddle stem—a material chosen for its long-term durability and resistance to oxidation.
The GG Classification and the Oil Curing Technique
The acronym GG denotes the large, prominent dimensions of the piece within the Radice grading system, while the designation Rind Oil Cured refers to one of the most esteemed techniques of the Cucciago workshop: oil curing.
Oil curing is a traditional, supplementary curing process:
The Process: The stummel is immersed in a select blend of vegetable oils and subsequently dried under controlled temperatures for several weeks.
Bowl Geometry and Smoking Specifications
The bowl is highly capacious, making it well-suited for extended smoking sessions. The internal chamber features a cylindrical drilling that tapers into a slightly conical geometry at the bottom.
