The Valbruna Grading (Classification) System

To understand the value and rarity of each creation, Simone Gaudenzi utilizes a rigorous classification (grading) system based on the finish, the quality of the briar, and the complexity of the workmanship.

Pipes are initially categorized based on the bowl's finish:

• Rusticated, sandblasted, semi-sandblasted, and semi-rusticated.

• Smooth Blue, Smooth Brown, and Smooth Light (where the natural, flawless smooth briar represents the absolute pinnacle of quality).

To this basic classification, premium upgrades inspired by the marine world are applied, which influence the final value of the piece: 2 Meduse, 3 Meduse, 4 Meduse, up to the highest tiers named Calypso and Atlantis. Additional value elements may be determined by the presence of precious accents and ornaments in cumberland, galalite, or silver.
