Alinetu by Daniele Carbini: Sardinian Craftsmanship in a Semi-Rusticated Freehand Pipe
Entirely handmade in Sardinia by Daniele Carbini, this Alinetu pipe represents a refined expression of contemporary Italian pipe-making craftsmanship. The piece stands out for its harmonious combination of contrasting finishes, carefully selected briar, and inserts crafted from fine-quality wood.
Briar Workmanship and Finish
The pipe features a semi-rusticated finish designed to highlight the different textures and natural grain patterns of the briar.
Naturally smooth body: The bowl and part of the shank have been left smooth, with a natural finish that showcases the quality of the briar block. The flanks display an even, flowing flame grain, while the base and top of the bowl feature a dense, evenly distributed bird's-eye pattern.
Rusticated rim: The upper edge of the tobacco chamber is enhanced with delicate, hand-applied rustication, creating a pleasing tactile and visual contrast with the smooth surfaces of the body.
Design and Materials: Boxwood Shank Extension and Cumberland Stem
The pipe follows a semi-curved freehand shape (Bent Freehand), characterized by flowing lines and a distinctive silhouette.
Boxwood extension: One of the defining construction details of this example is its long shank extension, crafted from boxwood. This light-colored insert not only lengthens and visually balances the pipe's silhouette but also creates an elegant contrast between the briar and the stem.
Cumberland stem: The shank is fitted with a Cumberland stem featuring subtle, lighter streaks and an ergonomically designed profile intended to provide comfort and a stable bite during smoking.
