The history of Ser Jacopo is rooted in the vision and talent of Giancarlo Guidi. Born in Pesaro, Guidi developed a passion for pipe making alongside his studies in applied arts at the Istituto d'Arte Mengaroni. Before helping establish Mastro de Paja in 1971, he gained invaluable experience working with ceramic manufacturers in the Marche region and at some of Italy's historic workshops.

In the early 1980s, the Ser Jacopo dalla Gemma brand was born, its name inspired by the portrait of a Renaissance nobleman. Guidi went on to establish what would become the celebrated “School of Pesaro,” an international benchmark for fine pipe craftsmanship. This tradition emphasizes the natural grain patterns of briar while introducing innovative shapes and finishes.
