Mimmo Romeo – Straight Dublin with Diamond-Shaped Shank, Natural Flame Grain and Warthog Tusk
This Italian artisan pipe was entirely hand-carved in Taggia, Liguria, by Mimmo Romeo. A second-generation master briar cutter, internationally appreciated and historically recognized as one of the leading suppliers of briar to some of the world's most renowned pipemakers, Mimmo Romeo is also a co-founder of the Accademia della Pipa, together with Gioacchino Sauro, Davide Iafisco and Gabriele Dal Fiume.
This piece presents a refined and precise interpretation of the classic Straight Dublin shape. The design is distinguished by its clean lines and by the faceted geometry of the diamond-shaped shank, which connects the bowl to the stem with exceptional precision. The cutting work and overall proportions reflect a high level of technical mastery, with a clear focus on allowing the natural qualities of the briar to take center stage.
The briar displays a regular, crisp flame grain that runs evenly around the bowl, highlighting the quality and natural character of the wood. The overall dimensions are small to medium, resulting in a lightweight and well-balanced pipe. The chamber has a modest capacity and features traditional cylindrical drilling, making it well suited to blends that benefit from controlled combustion or to smoking sessions of moderate duration.
A warthog tusk ferrule enhances the junction between the shank and stem. Its natural finish creates an elegant contrast in both texture and color. The short stem, handmade from a Cumberland rod, is shaped with a fishtail bit for a comfortable fit in the mouth.
