The Event Series: Historic Tradition and Authorial Reinterpretation

Within the world of Italian briar pipes, Caminetto Event pipes hold a special place, representing the brand's reinterpretation of the “Pipe of the Year” concept. Launched in 2013, this annual series was conceived by Tommaso “Tommy” Ascorti, grandson of the founder, Giuseppe “Peppino” Ascorti.

The philosophy behind the series is based on three fundamental principles:

• Drawing from the archives: Each year, a historic shape is selected from Peppino Ascorti's original design book.

• Contemporary reinterpretation: The historic forms are revisited and updated to suit the tastes and needs of modern smokers.

• The copper signature: A defining feature of the entire collection is the copper ferrule, which creates a visual and distinctive link between the different annual editions.

Aesthetic Analysis and Construction Details

Stand-up Full Bent Architecture

The 2019 edition features a distinctly curved Stand-up, full-bent shape of medium size. This geometry provides excellent weight distribution while smoking, reducing pressure on the jaw, while also allowing the pipe to remain upright when placed on a flat surface.

Smooth “Brown” Finish

Unlike the Skin version, the Brown variant features a completely smooth finish. The surface highlights the natural pattern and grain of the briar, enhanced by a warm brown stain. The flat, overhanging rim surrounding the bowl follows the same smooth treatment, creating visual continuity across the entire bowl.

Bowl and Mechanics

The bowl offers a generous capacity, making it suitable for medium-to-long smoking sessions. The cylindrical bore ensures a regular airflow and an even tobacco burn.

Copper Ferrule and Stem

At the junction between the shank and stem, the distinctive solid copper ferrule stands out, embellished with engravings reading “Event” on one side and “2019” on the other. The black acrylic stem terminates in a fishtail bit, providing a comfortable bite.
