This handcrafted pipe represents an extraordinary synthesis of technical mastery and artistic sensibility, shaped entirely by hand by Mimmo Romeo. A second-generation briar cutter who grew up in the family’s historic sawmill in Taggia and co-founder of the Accademia della Pipa alongside Gioacchino Sauro, Davide Iafisco, and Gabriele Dal Fiume, Romeo instills a deep, intimate knowledge of briar into every creation. His background, developed through close contact with Danish pipe-making traditions and masters of Teddy Knudsen’s caliber, allows him to approach the raw material with a modern perspective while staying firmly rooted in Italian artisan heritage.
The pipe stands as a freehand interpretation of the classic bent Egg shape, distinguished by marked formal elegance and an apparent simplicity that conceals a rigorous study of proportions. The bowl features soft, organic lines crafted to maximize the block's natural grain. The spacious chamber, with a cylindrical bore, is engineered to ensure optimal heat dissipation and an even burn.
Completing the piece's architecture is a cumberland stem cut from rod, enhanced by a warthog tusk accent extension. This decorative element, frequently featured in Mimmo Romeo’s work, provides a striking chromatic focal point and highlights its connection to contemporary high-grade pipemaking.
