Ashton Pebble Grain XX Pipe – Pentagonal Bulldog
Ashton was founded in London in 1983 by William “Bill” Taylor, following more than twenty years of experience at Dunhill. The brand combines classical English pipe-making traditions with significant technical innovations, including oil-curing of the briar and Ashtonite, a material specifically developed for stems. Ashton pipes are recognizable by iconic finishes such as Brindle, Pebble Grain, Old Church, Claret, and Sovereign, as well as classic shapes like Billiard, Bulldog, Apple, and Lovat. Following Taylor’s passing in 2009, his apprentice Jimmy Craig continued production, upholding the brand's original methods and philosophy.
This model, belonging to the Pebble Grain classification and size XX, presents itself as a classic and refined straight Bulldog. The finish features a deep sandblasting that strongly highlights the relief and natural texture of the wood. A distinctive structural element is the pentagonal-section shank, crafted with crisp lines that lend rigor and character to the silhouette.
The bowl houses a medium-capacity chamber with conical drilling, designed to promote a progressive and even burn of the tobacco. Completing the piece is a black ebonite stem with a standard bit.
