Francesco Ganci Handcrafted Italian Pipe – Smooth Bent Chubby Apple with Fiddleback Maple Ring

In his workshop overlooking the Gulf of Tigullio in Liguria, Master Francesco Ganci shapes fine woodworking pipes that combine executive rigor and artistic sensibility. Trained at the Pipe Academy, where he earned the title of Master, Ganci crafts each piece entirely by hand, applying carving and shaping techniques derived from the tradition of luthiery.

This model offers a personal and successful interpretation of the Apple shape in a Chubby style. The compact and muscular proportions of the bowl accommodate a medium-capacity chamber, drilled with a slight taper at the bottom. The lines of the body, defined by hand with a knife, flow seamlessly from the bowl to join a generous shank, creating a harmonious ensemble with a solid tactile presence.

The smooth finish highlights the quality and natural grain of the briar, which is left in its natural color to allow its grain to be appreciated. The architecture of the pipe is completed by a curved mouthpiece, handcrafted from an ebonite rod. A distinctive element of the mount is the wide ring made of fiddleback maple, whose natural flaming creates a refined chromatic and structural contrast where it meets the shank.
